Welcome to the memorial page for

Brian Shenkel

June 19, 2016

I am deeply saddened to inform you that my brother, Brian Christopher Shenkel, has recently died at his home in Brookfield, IL. Brian was born June 27, 1958 to George and Eileen Shenkel born in Evergreen Park, IL. He was a champion swimmer and loved the Chicago Blackhawks. He was a graduate of Lyons Township High School, La Grange, IL - Class of 1976.

Brian was a dedicated employee to Illinois Harley-Davidson, originally at Harlem and Roosevelt in Berwyn, IL. He moved the dealership to Countryside. Known as “B” to his friends and co-workers, he began his 30-year career as a wash bay attendant and moved up the ranks to motorcycle detailer. He went to school at Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee to become a Certified technician, then a service writer, crash estimator and eventually Shop Foreman.

B was extremely loyal to Illinois Harley-Davidson’s and the owner, Bob, whom he considered family, along with the rest of the original Harley team. B was the visionary for Illinois Harley Davidson to have antique motocycles from a private collection at Illinois Harley-Davidson displayed at the dealership. He was a results driven customer service professional and always worked with honor and integrity. Illinois Harley-Davidson was his life passion and his customers were his top priority.

Brian had an accident on the job when a bike fell and he tried to catch it. From that accident, he required back, neck and spine surgery, which resulted into eight surgeries, numerous blood infections and two years in the hospital. B eventually died from complications stemming from those multiple surgeries. He was 57 years old.

Brian always had the coolest muscle cars and would wash them by hand and never missed a spot. Brian had a passion for gardening. He loved honeysuckles, iris' and peonies, as well as cultivating his many indoor plants. Brian also had a special interest in squirrels and had a few as pets throughout his life, which were all named "George". He loved classic rock, especially The Beatles. We will always remember him playing King Harvest’s, “Dancing in the Moonlight” on Grandma’s turntable. B was a very private man and we respect his wishes.

Brian is survived by his Father, George August Shenkel, of Clearwater, FL; sister Kelly (Rick) of La Grange Park, sister Kristina Sherwood (Jim) of Evergreen, CO; nephew’s, Christopher Joseph Doherty, of Westchester, IL and Ryan Michael Doherty of Rockford, Tennessee; grand nephews Christopher and Draven of Brookfield, IL. Our beloved Mother, Eileen Petrick Shenkel passed in 1994. Brian will join family in Heaven for eternal life. In loving memory of Brian. We have loved him in life, let us not forget him after death.
