Maria Elena (Herrera) Garcia

Maria Elena (Herrera) Garcia of Bridgeview, formerly of Berwyn, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 25th, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband, of 41 years, Pedro Garcia, her children Jennifer (Dennis) Madden and Thomas David (Jenna) Garcia, her grandchildren Mason Garcia, Elliot Garcia, and Mia Madden, her siblings Ruben(Pam) Herrera, Serafin(Griselda) Herrera, Carmen(Gilberto) Marcha, Jose Luis (Rosa) Herrera, Rose Herrera, and her many nieces and nephews. Maria was a devoted member of the community. She enjoyed supporting, cheering, and traveling with the Berwyn Blazers soccer team with her husband, who was a coach, for almost 20 years.  They would continue to contribute to the team beyond the time that their own children had participated on the team. She was dedicated to her work in education as a school secretary for over 20 years at Unity Jr. High and McKinley School for Cicero School District 99 and made many friends over the years. Maria loved to read books, watch the Cubs, travel on the road with her husband, go to her grandchildren’s events, and she loved all of the members of her family near and far.

God saw you getting tired

And a cure was not to be.

So He put His arms around you

And whispered “Come to Me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you,

And saw you pass away.

Although we loved you dearly,

We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us,

He only takes the best.
