Thomas A. Kelly, “Tom”, 94. Tom was born in Chicago on June 23, 1925. He went “off, like a dirty shirt,” to his eternal rest on May 27, 2020. Resident of Oak Park, formerly of Chicago’s west side. Retired from the Chicago Police Department as a decorated officer. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, fighting at The Battle of Iwo Jima. He was the beloved husband of the late Peggy (née McClellan). He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Evelyn; by his eight siblings: the infant Thomas, Marge (Don) Hough, Putty (Al) Brady, James (Annette) (Jean), Rita (Roger) Brown, Teesie (John) Weston, John, and Pat (Wanda); and by two grandchildren, Molly Cichosz and Christopher Yearling. He is survived by sister-in-law Joanne Kelly; by his loving children: Jamee (Wesley) Cichosz, Cele Kelly, Tom (Lois) Kelly, Kevin (Louise) Kelly, and Pegi “Kelly” (Gary) Yearling; by his beloved grandchildren, to whom he was known as Gramp: Wesley John Cichosz, Hilary (Todd) Winkelhake, Beth Cichosz, Katie Cichosz, Tom Cichosz, Ted (Cristin) Kelly, Maggie Kelly, Kevin Kelly, Joe (Claire) Kelly, Jason (Katie) Doyle, Jordan Doyle, and granddaughter-in-law Summer Cichosz; by 11 great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be said for Tom and Peggy Kelly when circumstances allow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Tom’s memory to either St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or The National Fragile X Foundation (fragilex.org).
