Sylvia M. Michalowski

Sylvia Mary Michalowski, nee Kominek, loving wife of Reverend/Mr. Benedict J. for over 60 years, passed away May 2, 2018 at the age of 86. Cherished mother of Mary Anastasia Lopez, Therese (Richard) Beatty, Benedict (deceased), Joseph, Cathy (Brett) Giesick, Andrew (deceased), Edmund, and Dr Sylvia (Mark) Rimbergas, loving grandmother to Michael (Ann) Pyrchalla, Crystal Sokolowski, Ricky Sokolowski, Madeline Rimbergas, Sophia and Benedict, and dearest great grandmother to Ella and Jasper Sokolowski, devoted daughter of the late Leo A. and Sylvia Kominek, and favorite sister to Dr Leo (Anita) Kominek. 

Sylvia endured many complications in her 3 ½ year battle with cancer with humor and hope. She remained cheerful, loving, and kind to the end.  Sylvia graduated from Mundelein College in 1955 with a bachelor in music education.  She started her professional career as a novice, worked as a teacher at St. Leonard, Berwyn and Blessed Agnes, Chicago. As if raising 8 children wasn’t enough, she worked outside the home as the chaplain coordinator for MacNeal hospital. Her smile, keen wit, and laughter have been an inspiration to so many and will be missed.
