Alexandra Pellegrini Obituary

Alexandra Pellegrini, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Scottish Home in North Riverside, Illinois. Sandy was born on January 7, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri. She married her adoring husband Eugene in 1948. Residents of Riverside for 65 years, they had four children and fostered several others. Sandy will be remembered by family and friends as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Sandy especially enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and evenings at home listening to Eugene sing and play the piano. Her love for animals and her passion for volunteering at the Children’s Zoo at Brookfield Zoo spanned 35 years. She loved teaching all visitors about the baby animals while cradling them in her arms. There, she also did demonstrations spinning animal hair into yarn, which she began doing with her mother Lucille. Sandy is survived by her daughter Marcelia/husband Paul Brittain, son George/wife Beatrice, daughter Rebecca/husband David Bartel, son Kenneth/wife Rosemarie, three granddaughters Alanna, Rachael/husband Henry Marmol, Jr., Alexandra/husband Alexander Brown, four great-grandchildren Aislinn, Natalia, Juliette and Santino, and many loving nieces and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her loving husband Eugene, parents Lucille and Walter, brother James, and sister Roberta. Details are not yet available for a Memorial service. A private interment service will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 60 Akenside Road, Riverside, IL. In lieu of flowers, Sandy’s family asks that you consider donating to the Brookfield Zoo in her memory.
