Donald Powers, Jr. Obituary

Donald J. Powers, Jr., age 63, of Oak Park, IL, died at his home on January 2, 2022.
Born on August 7, 1958, in Elmhurst, IL, to Mary and Donald Powers Sr., both of
whom preceded him in death, Don was a cherished son, sibling, and uncle. He was
quite the character growing up, entertaining all with wonderfully funny imitations
of sports figures and sportscasters. He was a star baseball player as a child and a
great golfer throughout his life. Don attended Lyons Township High School and
graduated from Loras College. He had a long career as a commodities broker. He
began his career in the commodities industry at the Chicago Board of Trade and
Chicago Mercantile Exchange and continued his work thereafter advising on
commodity trading and futures investments at a number of large and small
institutions. Don adored sports and music, loved his family deeply, and was a loyal
friend. He will be remembered as a man of passion and intelligence, with an
interest in many subjects.

Don is survived by his six siblings and their families - Margaret Powers (Donald
Archer), Kathleen (William) Raaf, Elizabeth Powers, James (Catherine) Powers,
Moira (Gregory) Smith, and Hugh Powers; his nieces and nephews Amy (Quinton)
Overbay, Ryan Powers, Caleb Smith, Stephanie Powers, and Kylie (Thomas) Scott,
and his grand-nephew, Orist Overbay; and a host of friends. Don had a big heart
and will be missed by many. Don, we love you. May you rest in peace.

A memorial in Don’s honor will be held at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of
flowers, a donation in Don’s memory to the American Heart Association
(https://www.heart.org/) is appreciated.
