Donald Stanley Janik, 77, of Lyons, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2026. Donald was the loving son of the late Antoinette and late Fred Janik and was the dear twin brother of Gloria (James) Gort. He is fondly remembered by his nephew Adam and by many cousins, including John Ciombor, Susan (Gary) Baughn, Donna (Russ) Nanney, James Ciombor, LeRoy (late Kristine) Ciombor, Shirley (John) Orzechowski, Diane (Brian) Paff, JoAnne (Mark) Miller, and Walter (Ann) Ciombor, Jr., and close friends and caring neighbors Israel and Maria Fernandez.
Donald was an excellent automotive mechanic, who enjoyed nothing more than restoring old cars and trucks and was an enthusiastic collector of American Flyer model trains. He also enjoyed his computer and spending countless hours with Adam to keep it working well. And he particularly enjoyed spending time with Gloria in her many visits and calls.
Donald was also a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was most thankful for the excellent care afforded him by the caring doctors and nurses at the Hines VA Hospital.
Most importantly, he selflessly cared for his elderly mother in the last 10 years of her life. He truly lived the life preached by the Christian Ministries to which he was devoted. Donald generously supported many children’s charities throughout the world.
Donald was laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Illinois at a spot not far from the resting place of his dearly beloved mother.
