Beloved Daughter, Sister, Mother, and Grandmother

Genevieve Kersten, age 91, of Chicago, IL, died at Little Sisters of the Poor – St. Mary’s Home on August 3, 2020.  She passed peacefully holding her granddaughter’s hand.  Gene was born in Stevens Point, WI on October 10, 1928.  She had four children by a prior marriage to Frank Link.  They, and grandchildren, were her pride and joy, and she was supportive to them through all facets of life.  She is preceded in death by her brother Samuel (Grace).  She is survived by her four children, Paul (Kristen), David (Elaine), Mark (Martha), and Dyanne.  She has nine grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Myranda, Blake, Madeline, Connor, Ethan, Mary, and John.  Gene loved to make everyone around her laugh and smile, whether it was from her stories of attending all girls Catholic school, or her family, or her passion for chocolate and candy.  Some of her fondest memories and greatest pleasure was being a Cub Scout den mother.  She loved to travel on the few trips she took.  She enjoyed working on the Mayslake Bazaar Fundraiser for over a decade.  She was always generous to those in need no matter how little she had herself.  The funeral mass and visitation will be held at St. Leonard Catholic Church, 3318 S. Clarence Ave, Berwyn, IL, on Saturday, August 10, 2020, at 10:30am preceded by visitation at 10:00am.
