George R. Lacina began a new adventure on October 5, 2020 at the age of 85. One which we all must take at some time. Born March 10,1935 to Rudolf and Beatrice; he is survived by his sister Lydia; his son Geoffrey and daughter-in-law Janie, grandson Chris, and great-grandchildren Nathan, Wesley, and Lily; his daughter Katherine and son-in-law Henry, grandsons Gregory and Jason; his son Douglas and daughter-in-law Elizabeth, and grandchildren Brian, Patrick, and Megan. George was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy 11 years ago, but even with that devastating loss and lifelong physical challenges, lived his life to the fullest, never losing his tenacity and sense of adventure. George travelled the world. He went camping with his wife, three kids, a St. Bernard, and a cat all stuffed in a 1967 Dodge Dart often taking “Daddy Direct Routes” to the intended destination. His final earthly trip was a solo cruise at 84 while wheelchair bound to finish off his bucket list and drive his kids insane getting even for all of the late nights, he stayed up waiting for them to get home from dates. He visited every state in the US, every province and territory in Canada, and nearly every continent. Besides travel, George had many interests including community theater, gardening, and decades of involvement with Sokol. He was very active in all of organizations he belonged to. He built floats, ran a virtual flower show, performed in plays, planned, and escorted trips, sang in choirs, and held many offices. He will be missed by his family and the many people he’s impacted over his lifetime. He will be missed but not mourned. Visitation will be held on Saturday October 17 from Noon to 3:00pm, followed by a Family Remembrance Service at: Heritage Funeral Home, 3117 S. Oak Park Ave, Berwyn, IL 60402. Internment and a memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
