James O. Alsbury, 78, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois passed away peacefully on September 15th, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gabriel Alsbury (nee Kukuruzovic), sons Michael Alsbury (Anita), of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Steven Alsbury (George Martin) of Forest Park, Illinois; daughters, Kathryn Melady (Daniel) of Williams Bay, Wisconsin; Samantha Alsbury (Noé Trejo) of Chicago, Illinois; two grandsons; Austin and Dylan Alsbury of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; his Brother Thomas Alsbury (Karen) of Libertyville, Illinois; his Sister Judith Huberty (Patrick) of Downers Grove, Illinois; along with several nieces and nephews across the country.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Virginia Alsbury; Aunt, Patricia Craft, and Uncle, Bill Casey.
James (Jim) was born in Oak Park, Illinois on May 16, 1946 at West Suburban Hospital. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1964, and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1968, as a mechanic stationed in Texas and then Kansas. After completing his service, he worked at several jobs until finally finding his place with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier and Union Steward. His career at the Postal Service lasted 35 years while raising his family, and eventually retiring in 2001.
Jim was a family man. He would often share his memories of growing up and taking trips to Minocqua, Wisconsin, rowing canoes on the lake and riding horses through the woods. Someone who was not afraid of hard work, Jim would work weekend jobs painting houses so he could do home improvement projects and his kids could fall in love with Christmas, just as he had. Jim continued his childhood passions for aquariums and trains throughout his life. He would ultimately share these passions with his two grandsons. \
Memorial Visitation and Service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory 3117 S. Oak Park Avenue on Friday October 4, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
