JOHN W. SAUER – 96, born in Freeport, Illinois to Edwin and Ethel (née Love) on October 29, 1924. A proud World War II Veteran, deployed to Europe/Germany with the 71st Infantry Division. Oldest and longest resident of Stickney, Illinois for nearly 68 years. Belonged to the Sheet Metal Workers Union since 1956. He retired from Illinois Range Company in 1989, where he was a layout man, primarily working on new kitchen equipment designs for McDonalds. John died peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center La Grange surrounded by family. John is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Jean (née Sass), his children Stephen (Donna), Kathy (Gene) Teel, and Jeannine, his grandchildren Debra Lindsay, John Lindsay, Jason Hausknecht, Robert (Andrea) Lindsay, Holly Leyden, and Katelyn, his great grandchildren Lindsay and Aaron Kwiatkowski, his sister Mary Kastigar and many nephews and nieces. John is preceded in death by his children Michael, Christine Lindsay and Thomas, his parents, his brothers Robert and Edwin, many in-laws, family, and friends. We remember John as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, for his precision and problem solving, for all his wisdom and life lessons, and for his enjoyment of SUDOKU, Wheel of Fortune, and Chicago sports, especially the Cubs.
