In Loving Memory of Jose Efren Rene Almazan Roldan

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Jose Efren Rene Almazan Roldan, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and beloved son whose kindness, strength, and love for his family will be remembered always.

Efren was born in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico, one of five children. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sofia Roldan Rueda and Eduardo Almazan Garcia. Losing his father at a young age was a defining moment in his life, shaping his strength, resilience, and determination — and inspiring him to become the devoted father he always wished he’d had.

Before departing for New York, Efren married Lucy, his devoted wife and partner for a lifetime of treasured memories and adventures. In the 1970s, the couple immigrated to New York alongside his mother, Sofia, where they welcomed two sons, Arturo and Efren Jr., and raised their family in Queens.

Above all, Efren was a devoted father to his sons, Arturo and Efren Jr. — the pride and joy of his life. He was an incredibly hardworking man, and he believed the greatest way to show his love was through dedication and sacrifice, giving his family every opportunity for a better life. No matter how long the days were, his family was always the reason behind his hard work, and he never stopped putting them first.

The family later moved to Illinois, where Efren and Lucy eventually welcomed Gaby and Cecy into the family as daughters of his own, gained an Albanian adopted son in his best friend, Jimmy, and excitedly became grandparents for the first time. But if there was anything Efren loved more than his boys and daughters-in-law, it was his six grandchildren: Aubrey Scarlett, Patrick Aiden, Rachael and Reagan (his bonus granddaughters), and Roxana and Rubí. To them, he was “Guelo Monster” — a nickname that became who he was, a source of love, safety, and strength. There was no smile greater than the one he wore when he was with them. He also adored his grand fur babies, Augie and  Shade.

Baseball and soccer were both lifelong passions for Efren, sports he played in his youth before becoming a devoted fan. He was a proud, loyal New York Yankees fan, faithfully cheering for his team through every season, and just as passionately followed Club Puebla, his hometown team. Whether watching a game with family or talking sports with friends, it was simply part of who he was.

Efren will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, generous heart, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to his family, along with the compassion he showed everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in the memories we shared and in knowing that his love will continue to guide us. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
