With hearts heavier than a stage rig after load-out, we share that Joseph Timothy “JT” Uchison of Oak Park, Illinois, tragically passed away on May 27th, 2025, at the far-too-young age of 35. Born July 28th, 1989, in Oak Park, JT was the beloved son of Joseph and Robbin Uchison and the ever-supportive big brother to his sister Sarah...though he never let her forget who was older (and, in his opinion, cooler). While some chase the spotlight, JT thrived behind the scenes. At Oak Park River Forest High School, he found his tribe backstage, running tech on countless theatre productions. That love turned into a degree in lighting design from Columbia College Chicago and a career that kept him surrounded by cables, cues, and chaos (his happy place). Over the years, JT wore many hats: Swing Technician, Audio Technician, General Stagehand, Lighting Designer. Basically, if it involved gaffer tape, JT could do it. Most recently, he served as Head Audio Engineer for Mecum Auctions, traveling the country with a crew who became more like family. They’ll tell you he was the guy who always showed up, worked hard, stayed kind, and somehow still made people laugh. JT’s work ethic was legendary — like, "he’ll carry your gear and your bad mood" kind of legendary. But more than his talent or technical skills, he’ll be remembered for his loyalty, his sense of humor, and the way he made people feel genuinely seen (even in the dark, from behind a gaming PC or console). A celebration of JT’s life will be held on Monday, June 2nd, at 3:00 p.m. at 3117 South Oak Park Avenue in Berwyn, Illinois. Until then, in his honor, please be kind to the crew and don’t touch the board unless you really know what you’re doing. Instead of flowers, his family asks that you show your love with a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to help ensure no more lives are lost to diabetes. Visitation on Monday June 2, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home and Cremation 3117 S. Oak Park Avenue in Berwyn. Cremation will be private.
