Juan Estrella

Juan Estrella, known to family & friends as “Juanito" and "Tio Juanito,” passed away on January 8, 2024, at 87 years of age. Born near Quito, Ecuador, Juan was a Carpenter by trade and married his companion of 59 years, Gladys, in 1964.  Juan emigrated to Chicago, IL in 1967 and later in 1968, he received his wife and son (Diego) in the Little Village neighborhood.  The Family, now with daughter, Maria, moved near Marquette Park in the late 1970's, and after retirement from Local Union No. 1027, moved to Berwyn, IL in 1995. Juan continued to enjoy woodworking, tinkering and staying active.  Juan loved gardening, his Sunflowers, the Bird Bath, and his tomato & squash plants.  He enjoyed his drives with Gladys (and sometimes the Grandkids) to Montrose Beach in the Summer and Marquette Park in the Fall.  He looked forward to his daily walks around Berwyn and watching sports, especially futbol/soccer and Exatlon. Juan was preceded in death by his father (Serafin), mother (Manuela), brothers and sister.  His survivors include his son, Diego (Rocio), Grandsons (Angel & Ricardo), daughter, Maria de Lourdes (Michael White), Granddaughter (Daniella), sister (Rosa) and other family and friends (in the US and Ecuador). Juanito will be missed dearly.
