Limited Family Visitation.
Maria Del Carmen Cardenas was known by many different names to her friends and family. Tía Carmela. Carmelita. María. Carmen. Chata. Mija. Mami. Mom. Gramma. But never abuela. She was a loud, boisterous, joyful, angry, stubborn, loving, caring person, and she loved to party. Not as much as she loved to shop though. She was quite bold and forward, often expressing some outlandish and embarrassing opinions. These traits describe myself and my siblings perfectly. Who we are today is owed to our parents.
She also cared for and loved her family more than anything. In her time on this earth she emigrated to another country, made a life with our dad, raised a son and three daughters, enjoyed many years with her grandkids, got to watch us grow along the way, and she achieved one of her biggest dreams of all; becoming a US citizen.
We will dearly miss watching dumb action movies with her. We’ll miss her calling us while we’re at work to see how we’re doing. We’ll miss her voicemails telling us to call her back. We’ll miss her laughing at her own jokes. We will miss her cooking. Hands down, no one’s mole and tamales could ever top hers.
She will finally get to rest in heaven with her parents Jovita and Reymundo.
