Ross Matthew Huigens, 56, of Glendale Heights, Ill., formerly of Kerrville, Tex., San Antonio Tex. and Rapid City, S.D., at his home Jan. 17. Beloved son of Joseph and Shirley Huigens, younger brother of Kevin (Anne Marie Crowe) and Kyron (Shelly Wierman), uncle of Emily, Andrew, Brooke, Jessica, Austen, Derek, Audrey and Peter. Ross was born and raised in Rapid City, graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1986 and attended the University of Minnesota. He worked most of his life in grocery stores, from H-E-B in Texas to a series of stores in Illinois. Ross loved his family, and helped care for his parents in their later years in Kerrville. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, San Antonio Spurs and Tottenham Hotspurs, and loved playing historical fantasy baseball. Ross was an avid reader with a keen memory. He could tell you something you didn't know about many subjects, from rock n’ roll to philosophy and history. His bad jokes, his endless tolerance for talking about baseball, and his kind spirit will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the National Alliance on Mental illness (NAMI) https://www.nami.org/
