Santiago Moreno Zambrano Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Santiago Moreno Zambrano, age 98, of Berwyn, Illinois, who passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.   Santiago was born on September 25, 1927, in the town of Santiago Tangamandapio, Michoacán, Mexico, to Guadalupe Zambrano Gonzalez and Jose Maria Yepez.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Refugio Huerta De La Torre; his sister, Maria Moreno de Maciel; his brothers, Jose Moreno and Jorge Moreno; and his nephews Arturo Moreno, Hector Moreno, Alex Moreno, Joe Moreno, Miguel Moreno, Gabriel & Eduardo Blancas. Santiago is survived by his loving wife, Eva Ibarra de Moreno; his brothers Miguel, Antonio, and Jesus Moreno; and his sisters Margarita Moreno Garcia and Patricia Zamudio. He leaves behind his cherished children: Sergio Moreno Ibarra, Mario Moreno Mora, Blanca Sigala (Francisco Sigala), Alma Moreno-Aguilera (Juan Aguilera), Santiago Moreno (Carl Kocmoud), Veronica Moreno, and Claudia Moreno-Nunez (Cesar Nunez). His grandchildren — Jonathan Acevedo, Sofia Moran, Giana Moreno, Elizabeth Moran, Nathan & Natalia Flores, Soleil Nunez, Victoria Nunez, Cesar Nunez Jr., Maira Moreno, Karen Moreno, Mario Moreno Jr., and Jay Padilla — will forever cherish his memory.  Santiago spent his adolescence and part of his early adult years in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In the 1940s, he immigrated to California as part of the Bracero Program, helping to alleviate labor shortages during World War II. Afterward, he returned to Guadalajara, where he worked for the municipal transportation system. In 1966, Santiago moved to Chicago, where he found his forever home. He became a proud Medallion Taxicab owner in the City of Chicago and worked diligently until his retirement in 2006.  Santiago enjoyed reading the newspaper, camping in his RV, and traveling across the country with his children. Santiago loved swimming and working out at his local YMCA. He was witty, independent, and a true free spirit. In his younger years, he even played guitar with a local trio in Mexico — a reflection of his joyful and adventurous soul.  The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and caregivers at Pearl of Hinsdale and Angels Grace Hospice for their compassionate care and support.  Santiago’s legacy of strength, resilience, humor, and love will live on in all who knew him.  Memorial Mass to be held on Saturday March 14, 11:00 a.m. at St. Leonard Catholic Church 3318 S.
