Steven Arthur Evans
May 5, 1957 ~ January 15, 2024 (age 66) 66 Years Old
Steven Arthur Evans, 66, of Berwyn, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home with his devoted wife by his side, on January 15, 2024, after a two year battle against the odds. In May of 2022, after suffering a traumatic brain injury following a traffic accident, he fought hard to live for his loved ones. Despite the accident, his playful and fun loving spirit lived on despite his medical conditions that prevented him from living his once active lifestyle. Steven was born in Berwyn, and lived there most of his life. He was well known around town and the City of Chicago as a fun loving guy, who would give the coat off his back for anyone he came into contact with. He knew no strangers. His joy and optimism were contagious, and laughter was a constant when in his presence. He attended and graduated from Morton High School in 1975, and then obtained his bachelor’s degree in science and physical education at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1980. He was employed in the hotel industry, first at the Hyatt Regency, and then completed a 35 year career at the Fairmont Hotel. He truly loved his 35 years at the Fairmont, and enthusiastically served countless visitors and guests with such hospitality and enthusiasm for his City. Steven loved hosting parties at his home, especially in his beloved beer garden. He hosted many bands, sporting event watch parties, and neighborhood events in his beer garden. He loved to entertain and sports talk, debate and analyze otherwise, his beloved Chicago teams. Steven was preceded in death by his father Arthur Dunham Evans in 1973, his sister Ellen Evans Arnold in 1999, his mother Lucile Friese Evans in August of 2023, and many other dear friends and loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife of 14 years, Susan Ranker-Evans, his beloved son Kyle Evans, stepdaughter Amanda Alberts (Alaina Alberts), nieces, nephews, and countless friends and neighbors. A private burial will be held at Mount Auburn on February 2nd, with a celebration of life to follow in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VITAS Hospice http://VITASCommunityConnection.org or Midwest Labrador Retriever Rescue http://mlrr.org. We will remember Steven for his resiliency through hardship and loss, his welcoming and giving spirit, and the love he had for his family, who was at the center of his heart. In his remembrance, do as he did, and bring joy and kindness to all you meet, and “be the reason someone smiles, be the reason someone feels loved, and believes in the
goodness of people”.
