Suguna Vallabdas Obituary

Suguna Junna Vallabdas was born on January 3, 1937, in India to the late Rev. Prabhu Das and the late Premamma. As one of four children, Suguna was raised in a household profoundly dedicated to service and devotion. Her childhood was shaped by her family’s mission, traveling from village to village and spreading the word of God—a foundation that instilled in her a deep sense of faith and purpose, guiding her throughout her life. With a determined spirit and a compassionate heart, Suguna pursued nursing at Osmania Nursing College in Hyderabad. Her intelligence and empathy made her a natural caregiver, and she saw nursing not just as a job but as a calling. Through her studies and dedication to her work, Suguna aimed to uplift her family and make a meaningful difference in others' lives On May 27, 1964, Suguna married the late Rev. Dr. Samuel Vallabdas. Together, they embarked on a journey built on love, sacrifice, and service. Shortly after their wedding, Suguna made the brave decision to move to the United States with a few friends, stepping into an unfamiliar world to find better opportunities. As a registered nurse, she worked hard to support herself and lay the foundation for her husband’s eventual arrival in Chicago. In 1966, Suguna and Samuel welcomed their son, Sunil Vallabdas. During the family’s early years in America, Sunil was lovingly cared for by his grandparents in India while Suguna and Samuel built a stable and nurturing home. Once they settled, they brought Sunil to the United States and, in 1978, adopted their daughter, Supriya. Oak Park, Illinois, became their cherished home for more than fifty years—a sanctuary where they nurtured their family and offered support to others. The Vallabdas family’s home in Oak Park was more than just a house; it became a sanctuary for the Indian Christian community. Suguna was a quiet yet strong force behind many prayer meetings, women's gatherings, and fellowship dinners. Her organizational skills, warmth, and steady hospitality ensured that every guest felt welcomed and cared for. The atmosphere she created radiated faith, kindness, and an open invitation to everyone. Suguna’s devotion to service extended well beyond her family. She dedicated over twenty-five years to Mary Thomason Hospital and continued her nursing career at another local hospital. Even after long night shifts, Suguna would wake early to make breakfast, pack lunches, take her children to school, and prepare dinner — all before resting. Her days were purposeful, and her heart was full of love. Suguna was truly the backbone of her family and a steadfast pillar in her community. She freely supported new families settling in Chicago, helped with school enrollments, and always listened to those in need. Her unwavering faith in God made her the spiritual fire in her family and a beacon of hope for many. Suguna Junna Vallabdas leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith. Her life serves as a testament to the quiet greatness rooted in steadfast devotion, compassion, and love. Suguna Vallabdas leaves behind her daughter, Supriya Khan, and her four grandchildren, Sofia, Laylah, Aisha, and Nadia; along with her church family and a host of relatives, loved ones, and friends.
